ALTITUDE ENCODER TEST SET BARFIELD TEST EQUIPMENT aviall ability aviall.com 2387 2656G altitude encoder test set. The Barfield 2656G tests the binary coded output of the altimeter digitizers supplying the ICAO code in accordance with TSO C88. The 2656G accepts the encoded output from the altimeter through an adapter cable to an aircraft type receptacle on the test set panel. Integrated circuitry within the test set converts the altimeter digitized output into direct altitude readout in hundreds (100's) of feet. This readout is displayed on bright 0.3" numeral size LED's. Binary readouts are displayed on 10 discrete LED's and are arranged in columns for ease of code conversion. For testing the altimeter using aircraft power, circuitry is provided through an in-line adapter cable which adapts aircraft power to the input power of the 2656G. For bench testing, appropriate power is inserted through panel jacks on the test set. The tester provides reverse-polarity protection for the altimeter and test set when connected to DC inputs. Rectification and filtering is provided for operating the test set when 26 V AC is used as input power. A test button is provided to test all display readout segments and binary LED's. Altimeters of different manufacturers, and different series of a given manufacturer, have different connectors, wiring, and interface circuitry. Adapter cables manufactured by Barfield have the required switching and connectors to interface the 2656G to the dedicated encoding altimeter.
